The Silencer, the premier episode of Season Eight aired last night, and it's time to hear what the community here at the Criminal Minds Wiki has to say.

And that brings us to one Alex Blake.

We knew the premiere episode was going to represent a hit or miss moment for Criminal Minds simply because we were going to be introduced to the replacement for Emily Prentiss, who after five seasons, seemed somewhat irreplaceable. The replacement, who is played by Jeanne Tripplehorn, seems to come off as a bit of a know-it-all, and fans aren't happy.

Alex Blake detail

In last night's episode, she gives us the history of the word "nice" and lets everyone know how hard she has worked in her career, both in a snarky tone. On one hand, she does displays an aptitude for linguistics, sign language, and discovers the key element in finding John Myers, aka "The Silencer". But at the end of the episode, her picture is awkwardly hung with the rest of the team and I think the scene spoke volumes about how the team, and the fans, feel about this new character. What did we do to deserve Blake?

It only took one episode to realize that she is snobby, uptight, and makes the rest of the team look bad (or at least, she makes herself look better than the rest of the team), and it's rubbing viewers the wrong way. She gives Morgan a particularly bad attitude, and seems to lack any human personality. Maybe the writers are doing this on purpose, and they will build her up to be lovable, and give us a crazy backstory that excuses her attitude, but who knows.
