Steve Shill is a British television and film director, actor, and writer.

Biography[]

Little is known about Shill's early life. He attended Keswick Grammar School in Keswick, Cumbria, England, during the 1970s, then studied Fine Art at Leeds University, later becoming a member of Impact Theatre Co-operative, and, after the group disbanded, made theater work under his own name. After completing the BBC Drama Director's Course, Shill began his television directing career with episodes of EastEnders and Casualty for BBC. He also created the idea for Granada TV's Ted and Alice. He later moved to the U.S., where he worked on many successful shows produced by premium cable network HBO, including The Sopranos, The Wire, Rome, Carnivàle, Deadwood, and Big Love. Shill also directed the pilot episode of Showtime's The Tudors and served as the show's regular director and executive producer for its first season. He has also directed episodes of Brotherhood and Dexter, also shows for Showtime. In addition, he directed all eight episodes of Spike TV's The Kill Point miniseries and also served as an executive producer.

Shill directed and co-executive produced the 2008 Knight Rider made-for-TV movie, which served as a pilot for a remake of the series. He has also directed numerous episodes of many notable and well-known network programs, including all three main programs of the Law & Order series, Night Stalker, Invasion, Commander in Chief, Dragnet, ER, and The West Wing. Shill joined the crew for the HBO-produced western-drama series Deadwood, serving as a director for its first season, later returning to the job for its second season. For their work on the second season, Shill and the writing staff were nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Drama Series. He went on to direct the theatrical feature Obsessed, which was financially successful despite garnering negative reviews. In 2010, an episode for the first season of The Good Wife. In addition to directing and producing, Shill had acting roles in The Last Temptation of Christ, The Missing Reel, Kinsey, and Being Human.
