Rick Otto is an American actor best known for his portrayal of Officer Kenneth Dozerman in The Wire.
Biography
Otto was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 10, 1973. He was the youngest of three children born to a detective father and a nurse mother. Because of his father's job, Rick decided to attend law school after graduating from Loyola College. However, this changed when Otto found himself on the set of the NBC-produced drama series Homicide: Life on the Street. After encouragement and guidance from one of the show's actors, Otto decided to start studying acting instead. He studied at the renowned Herbert Berghof Studio with a number of notable acting teachers.
After performing in the plays Sweet Bird of Youth and True West, as well as several New York University student films, Otto moved to Los Angeles, California, where he met his wife, fellow actress Vanessa Angel, having been introduced to her by costar Lee Tergesen. After several roles in indie films, Otto was selected to play a role in The Thin Red Line, then won the Best Actor award at the Screamfest Film Festival for his work in R.S.V.P. This caught the attention of late producer Robert F. Colesberry, who cast him as Officer Kenneth Dozerman in HBO's Peabody Award-winning drama series The Wire.
