"Perennials" is the eleventh episode of Season Eight and the 173rd overall of Criminal Minds.

Bookend Quotes[]

  • Spencer Reid: "I have never yet heard of a murderer who was not afraid of a ghost." — John Philpot Curran
  • David Rossi: "The doctrine of the immortality of the soul has more threat than comfort." — Mason Cooley

Trivia[]

  • A perennial often refers to a plant that lives for more than two years. When not applied to plants, it indicates something that is indefinitely long-lasting or enduring. It can also mean that something lasts throughout the year.
  • The episode's plot is very similar to the slasher film My Soul to Take, in which the protagonist is born on the same day a serial killer dies and believes himself to be possessed by his spirit whenever murders occur (not unlike the episode's unsub).
