History
Edit
Caulfield was the sheriff in Fredericksburg, Virginia. During the 1980s, Caulfield was investigating the disappearances and murders of several teenage girls in the area. When a surviving girl was found, she denied everything, claiming she had ran off to do drugs and such. When the killings stopped, he became depressed and started drinking, until he was eventually asked to retire. In the 2000s, during the events of Birthright, the murders resumed, with the same MO as the ones 20 years earlier. The BAU asked who had been previously in charge of the investigation, and Caulfield was brought in to assist them. During that time, Caulfield and Agent Rossi shared their similar cases of longtime unsolved murders. They began asking if anyone had died or moved away around the time the murders stopped, and he told them of Robert Wilkinson. They went to his old house, where they found his widow, Mary. They entered Wilkinson's barn and saw the somewhat fresh blood on the axe and chopping block. They asked Mary where her son was, and she directed them to Chrissy Wilkinson. While the BAU found the kidnapped girls up in the mountain, Caulfield and the others searched for Charlie. After Chrissy shot Charlie, Caulfield was both happy and sad that he found out who was responsible, but 27 years late. He asked Rossi how long ago the Galen murders occurred, and Rossi told him 21 years had passed. He then replied, "Don't let it get to 22."
