François Chau is a Cambodian-American actor best known for his roles on Lost, Gemini Division, and 21 & Over.

Biography[]

Chau was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on October 26, 1959. He is of Chinese and Vietnamese descent. When he was six years old, his family moved to what was Saigon. The following year, Chau moved from Saigon to France due to the Vietnam War, and after a year there, he then moved to Washington, D.C., U.S., permanently settling within the country. After he graduated from college, Chau moved to Los Angeles, California, where he now lives with his wife and daughter. As an actor, Chau has had a number of diverse roles, playing Chinese, Japanese, and even Hmong characters, most notably as Dr. Martin Ng in the American sci-fi series Gemini Division and as Dr. Pierre Chang in ABC's Lost.

Chau has also taken on a number of smaller television roles. Among them, he appeared as Koo Yin, a Chinese consul in the drama series 24 and a Chinese diplomat in Stargate SG-1. He has guest-starred in multiple TV shows, including The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., The Unit, NUMB3RS, 24, ER, Baywatch, Alias, Shark, Grey's Anatomy, JAG, Medium, Lost, and Criminal Minds, as well as movies like G.I. Joe and 9/11: The Twin Towers. He also voiced Dr. Shen in the video game XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Lieutenant Winston "Vagabond" Chang in the video games Wing Commander III and Wing Commander IV. He was also featured in the music video Fine China, the 2013 film 21 & Over, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.
