Drugs are bad, m'kay?

Diazepam, marketed in the USA as Vallium, is a Benzodiazapine used to treat anxiety and/or tremors.

It may also be used to relieve the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, or as a mild antidepressant in patients who do not respond well to psychotropic drugs (such as Seroquel or Prozac). Diazepam is typically available in 5mg and 10mg dosages.

Other drugs in this category that share similar effects (at equivalent dosages) include:

  • Lorazepam (Ativan) 1-2mg
  • Alprazolam (Xanax) 0.25-2.5mg
  • Clonazepam (Klonopin) 0.5-2mg

Benzdiezapines are potentially addictive and can produce unpleasant withdrawal effects when used for a long period of time. Despite this risk, they are far less dangerous than psychotropic medications--which may have serious adverse effects in some individuals.

On Criminal Minds[]

Spree killer Darrin Call used the drug as medication before ultimately switching to Alprazolam (which was erroneously referred to as an anti-psychotic drug).
