Claudia Ann Christian (born Claudia Ann Coghlan) is an American actress, voice actress, and musician best known for her portrayal of Commander Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5.
Christian was born on August 10, 1965, in Glendale, California, as Claudia Ann Coghlan. Her parents were Hildegard and James Michael Coghlan, and she has two older brothers. She and her family moved to Connecticut sometime afterwards. At the age of five, she became interested in acting when she played a Native American girl in a school play. After her family returned to California, she graduated high school at the age of sixteen. Afterwards, she set out to start her acting career. For her first jobs, Christian worked in a coffee house and then at a clothing store for two years. Finally, she landed her first acting role on the soap-opera Dallas. In her next appearance, she portrayed Kara in the made-for-TV movie Calendar Girl Murders. Christian got her big break when she landed the part of Commander Susan Ivanova on the sci-fi TV series Babylon 5. Her role secured her fame in the acting industry.
In her personal life, Christian enjoys listening to opera, painting, extreme sports, playing piano, collecting antiques, and hosting dinner parties. She is fluent in the languages of French, Italian, and German, and has acted in these languages. Christian is also a singer/songwriter, having written both the lyrics and music for her first CD Taboo. She also produced and sung on two additional albums, Claudia Squared and the jazz and blues album Trying to Forget. She also lent her voice to many different venues, including live-action online games such as Earth and Beyond, PlayStation video games such as Shrek 2, commercials for companies such as Jaguar, and her highly-successful series of audio books from the Radio Repertory Company of America titled Anne Manx.
