SSA Andi Swann is a notable character who appeared in Season Six of Criminal Minds. She is the head of the Domestic Trafficking Task Force.

Not much specific detail about Swann's past is disclosed, other than she seems to share her history with Aaron Hotchner. Swann's most notable case as head of the Domestic Trafficking Task Force was trying to track down a human trafficking ring. Three years have been spent being committed to the case, and in the third year, Swann decided to lure out the ring by sending one of her agents, 25-year-old Renee Matlin, undercover at a university. There, Renee befriended Lucy, who happened to be the ring's leader. Lucy apparently gained Renee's trust in order to have an abduction for the both of them be successfully staged.

Supply and Demand

Eventually, the ring catches the attention of Hotch and his BAU team when the bodies of two of the ring's victims are discovered after a car accident kills the driver, one of the ring's members. Swann becomes enraged at the ring for abducting Renee and becomes focused on finding and retrieving her. Eventually, the BAU manages to find the ring's headquarters and discover a beaten but alive Renee and bring her home, while the ring's members are arrested and Lucy is shot dead by Morgan. In the Season Seven premiere, It Takes a Village, it's mentioned that Seaver transferred to Swann's unit sometime after Season Six. Swann is mentioned again in X, when it is said that new BAU member Kate Callahan worked in her unit.

  • Her character was named after filmmaker Andy Swan, who passed away after a year-long battle with lung cancer on February 8, 2011.
  • Swann has some similarities to SSA Kate Joyner as both have jobs within the FBI, share their histories with Hotch, helped him and the BAU track down criminal organizations, and are personally involved with their respective cases in some way.
